The Book Thief, A Footrace & A Random Shoe

I recently finished one of the best books I’ve ever read…The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It’s historical fiction set in 1939 Nazi Germany. Zusak uses words in a way I’ve never experienced and as a result this is one of the few books I think I could read over and over again. I highly recommend it.

On Saturday I had the privilege of running a 10K with a trooper of a sister. Happy Mom and I had planned to participate in the Rodeo Run several months ago. When she signed up what she didn’t know was that she’d be racing with a killer cold and serious sleep deprivation. Despite that she ran her heart out and we were both able to finish the race in an hour and 18 minutes (the video shows a different time because we were way back in the pack when they sounded the starting gun. We had special timing chips that noted our exact times). I was amazed at her discipline because a 10k is hard on a good day. I would know, because I was having a good day and I still finished #3,157. Anyway, I’m amazed with HappyMom and we had a great time running. This is us crossing the finish line (HappyMom is wearing a gray shirt and blue capris. She comes sprinting by on the right side and the clock says 1:23:40 when she crosses. I’m just behind her): //www.youtube.com/get_player

In other news, I found a random size 5 1/2 shoe on my front porch roof last week. I was out pulling weeds and my neighbor said “Hey, you have a shoe on your roof.” I looked and sure enough there it was. There were some random footprints in my planter as well as a plastic softball. I could see no signs of foul play but some little boy has been running around with one shoe off and one shoe on since Thursday. I would’ve taken a picture but our camera is currently not working so you’ll have to imagine the scene. That’s all for now. Have a great day!
