I've been reading Dan Siegel & Tina Bryson's most recent book Yes Brain. It's is a fantastic resource to help you create more "green zone" moments in your life. Green zone moments are moments when you (and your kids) have the capacity to balance emotion, act intentionally, cultivate resilience and exercise empathy. The alternatives to green zone moments are red zone moments (angry outbursts, reactive and violent action) or blue moments (withdrawn or stuck moments). Moving into red and blue zones is normal for kids and adults as they learn to regulate and balance their emotions. The trick is to learn tools to keep expanding the range of your green zone. Dr. Siegel points out that we may have a different green zone range for different emotions. For example we may know how to deal with sadness in a number of ways that keep us in the green zone but our threshold for anger might be less broad. It is imperative that we learn to expand our green range especially if we're parenting or interacting with children. I've invested a lot of time, energy and money into cultivating a broad green zone range for many emotions. This means I can think creatively in stressful experiences when other people would shut down or be stressed out and reactive. I would love to help you expand your green zone through my group coaching, podcast or mindful kids course! I also have individual coaching available. As always, you can book a free discovery call with me to see how I can help you best.
